Exclusive one-on-one coaching in West Virginia
There's nothing quite like the rhythm of oars cutting through still water at dawn. Rowing is meditation in motion—a refined practice that cultivates strength, mental clarity, and an unmatched connection to the water.
Every session is private and unhurried. Whether you're discovering rowing for the first time or refining a stroke you've known for years, you'll receive my complete attention—no groups, no distractions.
I spent three years as a varsity coxswain at RPI, where I learned to see rowing the way a coach does—reading every stroke, correcting in real time, understanding what makes movement efficient. After a decade in finance and healthcare analytics in Chicago, I returned to the water.
Now based in Huntington, I take on a small number of clients who want focused, personal instruction. This isn't a side hustle—it's a return to something I love, done right.
Limited availability — currently accepting clients for the 2026 season
Undivided attention on the water. I guide your stroke in real time—refining balance, power, and rhythm until it feels effortless.
Precision work on the ergometer. Ideal for mastering sequencing, building aerobic foundation, or maintaining form through the off-season months.
An intensive weekend at Ohio Valley Rowing Club in Parkersburg. Access club shells and immerse yourself fully in the sport. Coaching, equipment, and club fees included.
Private coaching for motivated young athletes ages 13–18. Build technical foundation, athletic discipline, and a skill that opens doors to collegiate programs nationwide.
Serious rowers own their equipment. A personal shell, fitted to your measurements and rowing style, becomes an extension of your body on the water. I'll guide you to the right boat—whether you're acquiring your first single or upgrading to something exceptional.
No. I work with complete beginners as well as those returning to the sport. Every athlete starts somewhere.
Light athletic wear—avoid cotton if possible, as it holds water. Comfortable shoes you don't mind getting wet. Bring a waterproof bag for your belongings.
We monitor temperature, river current, and debris conditions. If it's not safe or suitable, we reschedule. Safety always comes first.
Sessions launch from the Guyandotte boat ramp. It's a wet launch, so expect to step into the water when getting in and out of the shell.
Some baseline fitness is helpful. Rowing is demanding but low-impact—we'll work at your level and build from there.
Send me an email. We'll talk about your goals, experience, and scheduling to see if we're a good fit.
Currently I teach sculling only—two oars, one in each hand. If there's enough interest, I'm open to organizing sweep rowing (one oar, team boats). Reach out if that's something you'd like to pursue.
The Guyandotte has no barge traffic—it's calm, flat, and safe. The Ohio River is a different story: barge traffic is common and wakes are unpredictable. If we row the Ohio, we check river traffic online beforehand and stay to the shallows. Large wakes are always a concern in a racing shell. Be prepared to swim—it's part of the sport.
I take on a limited number of clients each season. If you're considering private instruction, I'd welcome the opportunity to discuss your goals.
