Huntington Rowing offers private rowing instruction including but not limited to:
On-water rowing sessions in single sculls and other rowing shells
Indoor training on rowing ergometers
Technical instruction, drills, and coaching
Water safety and boat handling education
Sessions at various locations including the Guyandotte River boat ramp and Ohio Valley Rowing Club
Acknowledgment of Inherent Risks
I understand that rowing and water-based activities involve inherent risks that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken. These risks include but are not limited to:
Water hazards: Drowning, submersion, cold water immersion, hypothermia
Capsizing: Overturning of the rowing shell, entrapment
Collisions: Contact with other watercraft, docks, bridges, or submerged objects
Equipment: Equipment failure, malfunction, or improper use
Physical demands: Muscle strain, overexertion, blisters, back injury, cardiovascular stress
Wildlife: Encounters with aquatic life or insects
Transportation: Risks associated with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment
I acknowledge that the above list is not exhaustive and that other risks may exist.
Safety Rules & Participant Responsibilities
I agree to:
Follow all instructions from my coach at all times
Wear a personal flotation device (PFD) when required
Notify my coach immediately of any medical condition, injury, or discomfort
Never row alone or without coach supervision during sessions
Abstain from alcohol and impairing substances before and during sessions
Dress appropriately for conditions (avoid cotton; wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing)
Inform my coach of any changes to my health or swimming ability
Treat all equipment with care and report any damage or concerns immediately
Cancellation & Weather Policy
Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled due to unsafe conditions including but not limited to: dangerous water temperature, excessive current, high debris levels, lightning, severe weather, or poor visibility. The coach has sole discretion to determine whether conditions are safe for rowing. Cancelled sessions will be rescheduled at no additional cost.
Important Notice: This is a participation agreement and acknowledgment of risk. Under West Virginia law, this document does not waive your rights to pursue claims for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or intentional acts. By signing below, you acknowledge that you have read this agreement, understand its contents, and voluntarily agree to its terms.
Adult Participant Agreement
Complete this section if the participant is 18 years of age or older.
Minor Participant Agreement (Under 18)
Complete this section if the participant is under 18 years of age. A parent or legal guardian must complete this section.
Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment
Notice to Parents/Guardians: West Virginia law limits the enforceability of liability waivers signed on behalf of minors. This agreement serves as an acknowledgment of risks and consent to participate—it does not waive your child's legal rights. We maintain liability insurance and follow strict safety protocols for all participants.
Photo & Video Release (Optional)
Huntington Rowing occasionally photographs or records sessions for instructional purposes or promotional use.
Coach Acknowledgment
I have reviewed this agreement with the participant and/or parent/guardian and answered any questions.
